Tips for getting your home ready to sell
During the selling process, buyers and agents will be making their way through your house while trying to envision it as a place they can call home. So you want to make sure to give them a great first impression! They will want to look in every nook and cranny, make sure things operate properly, as well as take note of things they either like, or would like to change. With that in mind, here are some things to consider while you are preparing to sell:
- Declutter: Get rid of things you haven’t used in a while. Organize blankets, minimize toys and accessories, and depersonalize your home a little bit, providing a clean space that may appeal to a variety of home buyers.
- Make small cosmetic repairs: Are there things that need a little paint touch-up, a light bulb that needs changed, maybe the sink has a small leak? Now is the time to tidy up – because a new buyer will notice!
- Spruce up your yard: Get rid of those pesky weeds in your flower beds, maybe plant a few new flowers for some pops of color, pick up sticks around the yard, power wash everything, and keep your grass mowed. If you have a patio with outdoor furniture, now would be a good time to give it a quick wipe down!
- Give your house a good cleaning: Vacuuming, dusting, cleaning rugs, bedding, and washing windows are some of the basics. But some other things to think about would be cleaning out your microwave, oven, and refrigerator because buyers will want to open each appliance!
- When it’s time for a showing, make sure all beds are made, light a candle (or 4), turn on all lights, lock up your valuables, and take your pet with you!
Ready to buy a home?
- Make a list of things you HAVE to have and things you would LIKE to have (those are two very different things). It’s important to know what is most important to you when buying a new home, and what things would be nice to have but are not dealbreakers. Is having a basement a priority or something that would be nice to have?
- Head to your lending institution and get a pre-approval letter. It is super important to understand where you are financially when buying a home. Instead of overwhelming yourself with options, a pre-approval will help you determine the price range that is right for you. This will help focus your search.
- Call a realtor. Buying a home can be overwhelming, daunting, scary, exciting… really all the emotions all rolled into one! Buying a home is one of biggest purchases of your life. That’s why it’s important to call a professional who can help you. We are experienced in the property business and will help you understand all of the details. Let’s get started!
